They're not mine to tell,
Impossible to confess,
This weigh that I feel,
This burden on my breast,

They fester deep inside me,
Clawing to get out,
I try to fight them down,
So silently I shout,

This bitterness is bile,
Burning in my throat,
I cannot speak the words,
So in secret I wrote,

This knowledge haunts me,
Every waking hour,
And it must stay locked inside,
Like darkness in a tower,

They hurt me you know,
It is so unfair,
But I won't breathe a word,
I wouldn't dare,

This is the price I pay,
The witness never forgets,
My voice is sealed away,
Choking on your secrets.
On the topic of the burden that comes from keeping other's secrets.

Other peoples secrets can be an almost unbearable load to carry and this poem captures that perfectly my friend...

A very moving piece - it highlights how secrets and pain can eat away at you.

Thank you very much. I appreciate your comment a lot. And its very true. I'm generally a very open person, and when you have your own secrets you can chose who to share them with if you feel the need to. But when your keeping someone else's secrets, and they're affecting you... thats a whole different situation. One I've found myself in for the past 6 months or so, but only recently found the words to express how it feels.

I've had to deal with other kinds of pain and anxiety over the last few months, but I imagine the effect is very similar. It does feel like a physical weight on your chest sometimes.

Indeed. Many burdens have that similar feeling of a physical weight bearing down on you somehow.
